Sozopol is located on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast in the southern part of the Bourgas Bay, 35 km south of Bourgas. The city is divided into the Old and New Town, among which is the Sea Garden.
 
Sozopol is the oldest city on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. The settlement arose at the end of IV-III millennium BC. Later in 610 before BC on the place of today's Sozopol a Hellenic colony under the name of Apollonia Pontica. In IV. The town is known as Sozopolis and was under Byzantine rule.
